Research IntroductionThis is a MSc study carried out at Faculty of Geo-information and Earth Observation (ITC), University of Twente about flood risk assessment, particularly about victim estimation. This research aims at building a TRANSPARENT modeling framework for victim estimation in flood by linking flooding and evacuation modeling, based on a thorough literature review over existing methods and modeling trends. The general research framework is based on the work of Jonkman and Vrijling (2008). (more information)
Literature ReviewStudies in related areas including flood risk assessment, methods of victim estimation, evacuation modelling are extensively reviewed. Particularly, as a methodology development study, the literature review has been particularly focusing on evaluation of existing modeling methods and approaches, their pros and cons... (more information)
ModelingThe methodology of this study is based upon extensive literature studies and explicit explanation of modelling concepts and algorithms applied. A new evacuation model is proposed and realized by GIS - Matlab coupled modeling. Evacuation model and flooding simulation is linked closely for estimation of exposed population and victims in flood... (more information)
ResultsThe results of this study contain estimation of victims in the case area under one flood scenario, exposed population, pattern and evacuation performance evaluation under different situations (Scenarios). Maps, animations and web applications are created to exhibit the modeling results... (see: Gallery and Map Matrix)
